mchwiki:manual

Introduction

This section should give you a brief introduction into the “Dokuwiki” software, the system on which the MCh wiki is based. This short manual is only for starters, a very good, comprehensive manual can be found under these links:

In case of problems, please contact any of the active admins.

Create a Page

First step is to create the blank page. This can be done by editing the sidebar by

  • clicking “sitemap” on the upper right,
  • clicking “sidebar” in the list,
  • clicking on the “edit” icon on the upper right of the text part,
  • entering a new line in the structure,
  • giving a namespace (in small letters) and the appearing name, separated by a “|” (click Alt-Gr & the “<”-key).

Typing & Formatting

Click on any page you want to edit, then click the “Edit this page” icon on the upper right of the text field.

Please do so now with this page you see here, then you will see the code and will learn how it works. You may copy the code to new page and may modify it for your purposes.

You will then see the text field with formatting icons on the top, which are mostly self-explaining. Here is a list of the most common formatting effects:

  • Headlines are defined by typing an identical number of “=” before and after the headline text. More “=” mean higher headline (6 levels available).
  • Lists are created by typing the text, marking it and clicking on the list icon (this will set “*” symbols in front of the paragraphs and may also be done manually)(see alos the code for this list),
  • Tables are created by just typing the cell content in a row, separating it by “|” (Alt-Gr & “<” key). Note that you need to put a “|” at the beginning and end of the line to. The table head will be created in the same way using “^” instead of “|” (see below). If you would like to have one cell covering two columns you just use “||” (see below).

Examples

This is bold text.

This is italic text.

row 2, column 1row 2, column 2
row 3, column 1row 3, column 2row 3, column 3

8-) Have a nice day! 8-)
