Equipment
Here you will find documentations of all equipment except for lab equipment listed in the bnext section.
Office equipment
Smartboards & Beamers
Three fixed TEAMBOARD smartboards are installed at MCh:
- A big one in Seminar Room,
- One smaller one in the Meeting Room,
- A second small one in the Prof.´s office.
Consumables (pencils, cleaning towels, cleaning liquid etc.) are available in the copy room.
Please note: Light bulbs for all smartboards are identical, no matter which size. A spare light bulb can be found in the IT consumables cabinet in the copy room!
Beamers
Fixed beamers
We have one fixed beamer in the APT lab right above the machine.
Portable beamers
We currently have 2 portable beamers: One very old, heavy one and one small and light one. Both can be found in the locked IT cabinet in the copy room.
Video conference system
Funded by DFG in the frame of the collaborative research center (Sonderforschungsbereich) SFB-TR 87, we have Tandberg C20 video conference system in the meeting room (02_216). This system allows for IP-based video conferencing via two large flatscreens and may be principally connected to any IP-conference system throughout the world.
Media supply system
Gases
The central gas supply for the MCh labs is located outside at the rear parking lot, next to the garbage space. Five high-purity are gases available:
- Argon 5.0
- Nitrogen 5.0
- Nitrogen 4.8
- Oxygen 5.0
- Hydrogen 5.0 only in certain locations
Pressurized air
The pressurized air system is available at a maximum pressure of 8 bar. The air quality is standard technical air, it may contain oil residues and humidity to a certain extend. The compressor is located in a side room of IOB hall, right behind the CemeCon lab. In case of trouble with the compressor please contact IOB staff first for checking. In case of persistent trouble or any other issues, please contact the RWTH responsible:

Air ventilation system
The MCh building is locally equipped with an air ventilation system located on the roof installation center.
Please note: This is not an air conditioning system!
This system provides fresh air in the lab floor, and in the office floors, but not in the offices.
__Please note: For maintenance this system, incl. its sub-systems, has to be shut down several times a year. Please find the current schedule below:
Maintenance schedules
The schedules are given out by RWTH central administration, Facility Management.
- GW: Große Wartung, Large Maintenance, 8h duration,
- MW: Mittlere Wartung, Medium Maintenance, 3-5h duration,
- KW: Kleine Wartung, Small Maintenance, 3h duration.

Air cooling/air conditioning
The seminar room and the meeting room are further equipped with a local air cooling system which cools down the standard ambient air supply in order to avoid people to get tired in meetings.
The server room on the office floor is equipped with a local air conditioning system.
The analytic labs in the center of the lab floor are equipped with a dedicated air cooling device that maintains a temperature of 20°C by active cooling. Since there is no possibility for heating this system is only working downwards. The intention is to protect the machines. Staff working here has to take measures against freezing, if applicable.
