Materials Chemistry II
Materials Chemistry II is an undergraduate/graduate course on thermodynamics at RWTH Aachen University for students in the fields of studies:
- Werkstoffingenieurwesen, B.Sc.
- Wirtschaftsingenieurwesen (FR: Werkstoff- und Prozesstechnik), B.Sc.
- Technik-Kommunikation, B.Sc.
- Metallurgical Engineering, M.Sc.
The course is offered during the winter term. Lectures are given by Prof. Schneider, Dr. Music and Prof. Zander (KKS). Students may participate in a midterm exam which allows them to collect bonus points for the final exam (2 in March/April, 1 in September). The course contains the following topics:
- Second law of thermodynamics
- Physical transformations of pure substances
- Binary mixtures and their models
- Phase stability and phase separation
- Phase diagrams
- Statistical thermodynamics
- Boltzmann and Maxwell-Boltzmann distributions
- Applications of kinetic theory
- Chemical kinetics
