Materials Chemistry I

Materials Chemistry I is an undergraduate course on thermodynamics at RWTH Aachen University for students in the fields of studies:

• Werkstoffingenieurwesen, B.Sc.
• Wirtschaftsingenieurwesen (FR: Werkstoff- und Prozesstechnik), B.Sc.
• Technik-Kommunikation, B.Sc.

The course takes place in the summer term and consists of 11 lectures, given by Prof. Schneider, Ph.D. and 11 exercises, given by an assistant. There is an additional mid-term exam usually in June which is a multiple choice test with purpose to improve the final mark. Two exams can be taken in the summer term (first date in August, second date in September) and one exam can be taken in the following winter term (third date in March). The course covers the following topics:

• Properties of Gases
• First Law of Thermodynamics and its applications
• Second Law of Thermodynamics and its applications
• Physical Transformations of Pure Substances
